Thomas Contract
B.U.L.L.Y is an organization that was founded due to a
tragic event. A family in the Anoka County community lost their 12 year-old
son as a result of being bullied. In light of this tragic loss of Thomas
Trosvik we strive to raise awareness and prevent bullying. Our ultimate
goal is to build understanding, love, and learning for youth by empowering
them to become Bully-Proof.
What is Bullying?
Bullying is beyond
teasing. Bullying includes one or more persons intentionally trying to harm
someone who is weaker than them and certainly more vulnerable. Bullying
includes but is not limited to direct attacks such as hitting, threatening
or intimidating, maliciously teasing and taunting, name-calling, making
sexual remarks, and stealing or damaging belongings. More subtle forms of
bullying include, but also not limited to indirect attacks such as spreading
rumors, and encouraging others to reject or exclude someone. Bullying
typically begins in the elementary schools and proceeds into middle school
and hopefully/typically tapers off as kids get into high school.
Effects of Bullying:

bullied will often feel tense, anxious and afraid. |
| Kids who are bullied
and those that are bullies are more likely to suffer from depression,
anxiety and other psychological implications. (Sometimes,
this even leads to suicide. The earliest reported incident of suicide
because of bullying occurred in 1967). |
| Sleeplessness,
nightmares, tics or nervous habits |
| Poor appetite,
stomach problems |
| Academic problems,
fear of going to school |
| Loneliness, loss of
self-esteem, insecurities, humiliation, avoidance of activities |
